Good Nutrition Focus of Dierbergs’ In-store Program and Charitable Campaign

For Immediate Release: September 6, 2016

ST. LOUIS – Dierbergs Markets is helping area kids eat better and stay focused in school with two September programs: Kids BEE Healthy and a charitable support program for Operation Backpack.

Kids BEE Healthy, September 6-October 3, is designed to help parents encourage their kids to eat better and exercise more.

Operation Backpack, September 13-October 10, is a donation-at-checkout program that supports Operation Food Search and its efforts to provide weekend meals for area kids who rely on free or subsidized lunches during the school week.

“If you’re hungry you can’t focus, and if you can’t focus you can’t excel in school,” says Sunny Schaefer, executive director of Operation Food Search. “This program ensures all area children have proper food for learning and growing.”

Kids BEE Healthy is celebrating its tenth anniversary. “Back in 2006, a team of Associates at Dierbergs realized they could make an impact on healthy-eating behaviors for kids,” says Laura Dierberg Padousis. “With the help of Dierbergs’ culinary professionals and nutritionist, Dierbergs developed its fall month-long Kids BEE Healthy event, the first program of its kind for supermarkets around the country.”

During Kids BEE Healthy, Dierbergs flags health-smart, kid-friendly foods in their weekly ad and in-store with a “BEE” to identify products that qualify as part of the program. Kids can also enter the Kids BEE Healthy essay contest and Walk Your Dog Challenge (complete details entry forms can be found at the Courtesy Center at Dierbergs or at
