Dierbergs Markets working to become a plant-based destination grocery store

This month, Dierbergs Markets is teaming up with Hungry Planet, another St. Louis-based company, to roll out a brand new, plant-based prepared foods menu in 24 stores. More than two dozen new entrees, sides, soups and appetizers will feature the premium plant-based meats including beef, chicken and Italian sausage. In all, there are more than 50 prepared plant-based selections available to Dierbergs’ customers in the deli department.

“We’re aiming to be our customers’ best source for products that will fit their lifestyle, including plant-based foods,” said Greg Dierberg, President and CEO. “An investment in convenient, grab and go prepared foods has been key to moving us toward that goal; and it’s just icing on the cake when two local companies can work together to deliver a delicious, on-trend solution.”

“This comes on the heels of ramping up our plant-based protein choices in our meat department," David Calandro, Dierberg’s Director of perishables and foodservice said. “We are truly becoming a plant-based destination for customers, looking for convenient, prepared options as well as those that like to make their own creations at home. This new menu makes it even easier for customers that might be on the fence for trying plant-based. We’ve done the work for them.”

The meals are created by Dierbergs chefs using Hungry Planet’s meats in partnership with Hungry Planet’s Executive Chef, Freddie Holland. The meals include a full range of Hungry Planet’s versatile proteins: Naked Chicken Fajita Bowl, Grilled Beefy Black Bean Burger, Chicken Teriyaki Stir Fry and many others. The meals are priced between $5.99 and $9.99.
