Product Recall: Orajel (UPDATED)

Product Recall: Orajel (UPDATED)

St. Louis, May 23, 2018 (Updated May 25, 2018) - In response to a Food & Drug Administration (FDA) consumer warning regarding over-the-counter (OTC) teething products containing benzocaine, Dierbergs Markets has removed the following product from its shelves:

Orajel Gel for Teething, .33 oz.
UPC: 3-10310-03313
Lot Code: All

In the warning, the FDA announced that OTC oral health products containing the pain reliever benzocaine for the temporary relief of sore gums due to teething in infants and children should no longer be marketed as such products pose a serious risk to those under the age of 2. This action was taken following accumulating evidence regarding benzocaine's association with methemogobinemia, a blood disorder.

More information on this warning, including recommendations for parents and caregivers with teething children, can be found on the FDA website.

UPDATE: This product has now officially been recalled and is being discontinued. For more information, please see Orajel's website.

Customers may return the affected product to any Dierbergs for a full refund.
