1 Week Before

  • Clear out your fridge and freezer to make room.
  • If you’re DTY (Doing Turkey Yourself) or looking for R&R (Roast and Relaxation) and buying a frozen bird, head to Dierbergs to buy and begin thawing.
  • Shop for non-perishables and holiday staples.
  • Make a cooking schedule, working backwards from the time you plan to serve dinner. Turkey roasting time is key.
  • Make Cranberries with Port and Orange from our Season's Eatings recipe list.

3 Days Before

  • Pick up your bird if you haven’t done so at your local Dierbergs.
  • Buy perishables, including produce.

Thanksgiving Day: It's Finally Here!

  • All your prep is about to pay off.
  • Have your morning coffee and eat breakfast. It’s going to be a while until dinner.

4 Hours Before the Feast

  • Preheat the oven to 425°F. if making our Traditional Oven Roasted Turkey (12 pounds). Get turkey into the oven; set timer for 1 hour as reminder to reduce oven temperature. Tidy kitchen.
  • Mix together Savory Dressing and place in baking dish. Cover and refrigerate.

1 Hour Before the Feast

  • Place Make-Ahead Mashed Potatoes and Savory Dressing in oven; bake as directed.

30 Minutes Before the Feast

  • Check turkey for doneness. Remove from oven, tent with foil and let rest 20 minutes.
  • Make Perfect Turkey Gravy and Zesty Green Beans.
  • Bake rolls.

Feast Mode

  • Carve turkey and serve with all the fixins’. Admire your job well done and relish in the compliments of your guests.
  • Have seconds. (This is not optional!)

No More Than 2 Hours After Dinner

  • Wrap leftovers separately and refrigerate.

After Guests Leave

  • Load the dishwasher and promptly find a spot on the couch.
  • Enjoy one last glass of wine (or two). You've earned it. Cheers to you, kitchen hero!
